The Virtues of Turkey

Turkey is the new champion when it come to healthy eating and is a firm favourite with nutritionists & health professionals. Turkey breast has the lowest saturated fat (the type linked to heart disease) of any mainstream meat, is high in protein and is a great source of key nutrients for health such as the B vitamins, phosphorus, selenium & potassium**.

This is all well and good, but does it really make a difference when planning menus?

The answer is yes, according to research by OnTrack, which shows that consumers, more than ever, want to know what they are eating, in and out of home.

In terms of key food drivers in pubs, for example, the market analyst found that more than 20 percent say they want to know the fat content of their food and one in five say they want to know the calorie content*.

At the other end of the spectrum, schools now have to excite children’s tastebuds while serving up nutritious options that meet School Food Trust guidelines, a difficult task when menus need to be regularly rotated with little repetition.

Wherever you work, offering nutritious options is a real selling point as operators strive to meet the demands of today’s more health conscious diners.
